Nir Shavit is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Nir’s research is directed at understanding the mathematical nature of synchronization and coordination as it applies to multiprocessor computing machines. He has written the main textbook in his research area and has received various awards recognizing his work.

Nir is an avid playback artist. He was a member of the original Weizman Playback Group, a member of Boston’s True-Story Theater, and a co-director of the Boston Playback Company. He continues to teach playback in Boston and occasionally runs playback-inspired social events in academic meetings.

Over the years,  Nir has advised numerous undergraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral students, as well as younger academic colleagues. Being part of the hfp consulting team is another opportunity to share his experience with a broader range of the science community.
